Can bike sharing help save the environment? The chances are bigger than you might think!

Global warming is one of the biggest issues the planet is facing right now. The climate crisis affects the entire planet and all of its citizens, whether they realize it or not. Another fact people may not realize is that many of their everyday practices directly contribute to the poor environmental condition of the planet.

And that is when the micromobility market comes in. Cars and other means of transportation that work on burnable fuels play a big role in the worsening of environmental issues. Bike sharing systems, on the other hand, are far more environmentally friendly, and here are some reasons why.

1. No production of toxic by-products

Carbon emissions are extremely harmful for the environment, especially to the ozone layer. Bikes and other micromobility vehicles do not produce any greenhouse gasses that have the potential to contribute to air pollution. When it comes to movement, pedal-assist bikes rely on the driver rather than on fuel, which brings us to the next point.

2. No use of burnable fuels

The extraction of burnable fuels that cars run on, like oil and gas, is another practice that harms the planet. If the production of these fuels were to be reduced due to the lack of need for their usage, the harm caused by them would also be reduced. The implementation of bike-sharing programs into the infrastructure of cities can help reduce the need for these fuels and, in turn, help maintain an ecological balance.

3. Reduction of noise pollution

Noise pollution is another serious environmental issue, which harms wildlife. It is no secret that the biggest noise-makers in a big city are cars and other means of transportation. At the same time, shared micromobility vehicles are silent and do not make any noise that can contribute to noise pollution.

ANIV, as a micromobility sharing company, cares about the environment and promotes sustainable means of transportation. Moreover, on top of the abovementioned environmental benefits, ANIV utilizes dockless stations, which are even greener than the docked ones. Dockless stations are indicated on the bike sharing app as parking spots, which allows drivers to park on certain spots and eliminates the need for re-balancing by the maintenance team. The latter would be using cars to rebalance the wrongly parked vehicles and, therefore, harming the environment in ways mentioned before. This issue is terminated in the case of dockless stations.

The question remains: can bike sharing help save the environment? There is no doubt that taking care of our planet is the responsibility of every single person. Starting from small habits and finishing off with big ones, we all have to play our part in the improvement of the environment. Considering the information mentioned above, it is safe to say that using shared micromobility vehicles and minimizing the usage of other means of transportation can be a solid step to saving our planet. So, to answer the big question, yes, bike sharing can help save the environment.

ANIV encourages the usage of micromiblity vehicles and provides cities, big and small, the opportunity to go greener and work on changing their entire transportation system for the sake of residents, visitors, and the planet as a whole. Let’s work towards improving the state of our planet together, one shared bike ride at a time.
